Snag is an internal tool that lets Proofed staff report problems with work systems. This page explains what it collects, where that goes and how long it's kept.
When Snag collects anything
Only when you click the Snag icon or press its keyboard shortcut. It does not run in the background, watch your browsing or read pages you haven't reported.
What is in a report
- The screenshots you include, with your marks burned in. Areas you cover with Hide are permanently painted over before anything leaves your computer.
- What you type, and how much the problem is affecting you.
- The address and title of the page. Logins, fragments and query values that look private, such as tokens or email addresses, are removed first.
- Technical details: your browser and operating system, screen and window size, zoom, light or dark mode, scroll position, how long the page has been open and took to load, number of CPU cores, approximate memory, connection type, language and time zone.
- The addresses of any failed network requests, without their query strings.
You can untick the page address, technical details and failed requests before you send. You can see the full list under "What else gets sent".
What is not collected
Snag has no accounts. It doesn't ask for or send your name or email. It doesn't read your cookies, form contents or page text, and it doesn't use analytics or advertising.
A screenshot can still show who you are, such as your name in the corner of an app. Technical details could also narrow down who sent a report in a small team, so untick them if that matters to you. Use Hide to cover anything personal before sending.
Where it goes
Reports go to Snag's server, which posts them to a Proofed Slack channel. After that, Slack's and Proofed's own retention rules apply. Report data isn't sold or shared with anyone else, or used for anything other than fixing problems.
How long it's kept
The server deletes your screenshots and words as soon as Slack has them. If a report can't be delivered, it's deleted after 7 days. A record containing only the reference, severity, delivery status and time is deleted after 30 days.
Your network address is used to limit how many reports can be sent. Snag stores it only in a scrambled form that expires within a day, and doesn't attach it to reports. The computers that host the server may keep their own short-term access logs.
An unsent report stays on your computer so that you don't lose it. It's deleted when you send it or discard it, or after 14 days.
